Tagging Monarch Butterflies!!! (and other CCPRC offerings for November)

Have you ever tagged Monarch butterflies? Join Charleston County Parks and Recreation Commission Commission’s Kristina Wheeler, in a program to learn about these great creature and hopefully help with the research as we try to catch, tag, and release them to see where they go. You have 2 chances; November 1 and November 8. See the other great opportunities for outdoor fun (and Advanced Training hours) offered by CCPRC. Preregistration required.

Monarch Migration- 6689 Nov 1, 2019 Fri 1pm to 3pm

Location: Folly Beach County Park
$9.00  Ages: 9 and up Notes: A registered and paid chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under.

Lighthouse Inlet Bird Walk- 6678 Nov 8, 2019 Fri 8:30am to 10:30am

Location: Lighthouse Inlet Heritage Preserve – Entrance
$9.00 Ages: 12 and up Notes: A registered and paid chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under. Please be aware there are no restrooms at this location. Binoculars are not provided. Please bring binoculars if you have them.
This walk focuses on the incredibly diverse northeast end of Folly Island. Once the home of a Coast Guard station, this Heritage Preserve protects maritime forest, beach, dune, and marsh habitats for wildlife. This site is a leader in number of bird species seen in South Carolina. At this time of year we hope to see songbirds, seabirds, and shorebirds such as Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Northern Gannet, Piping Plover, and much more.

Master Naturalist Sampler- 6685 Nov 14, 2019 Thu 9am to Noon

Location: Palmetto Islands County Park – Park Center
$12.00  Ages: 16 and up
Would you like to take our Master Naturalist course, but don’t have the time? We offer half-day sessions for the naturalists at heart with busy schedules. The forested habitats and salt marsh edges provide a superb outdoor classroom for learning how to read landscapes. Walk away with a greater understanding of the natural world and your place in it!

Early Birding- 6687 Nov 21, 2019 Thu 6:30am to 9:30am

Location: Caw Caw Interpretive Center – Exhibit Area
$12.00  Ages: 12 and up Notes: A registered and paid chaperone is required for participants ages 15 and under.
If the early bird gets the worm, the early birdwatchers get both! We can leave the worms for the avian life and enjoy finding birds at dawn. A birding professional will help you find the birds and help you to understand their strategies for success in the natural world.

Join a Master Naturalist instructor for a casual afternoon stroll across the picturesque grounds of the Caw Caw Interpretive Center. The flora and fauna will be a visual feast for the eyes and then we will kick back and enjoy some treats for the palate. Light hors d’oeuvres and adult beverages will be provided.
