CCPRC’s Kristina Wheeler hosted an informative virtual gathering on the Asian Long horned Beetle (ALB). Our guest speaker was Kim Dean, the USDA Acting Program Director for South Carolina of the Asian Longhorned Beetle Eradication Program. Kim was engaging, knowledgeable and obviously cares about protecting us from this invasive beetle.
There are many resources online about the beetle, how to identify it and what to do if you see it.
A quick explanation is on this recent YouTube video, less than 3 minutes (My guess – I think it is at Stono River County Park) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8xevT5syHE
One of my favorites is a recent webinar conducted by Clemson and Ohio for our Forestry folks. It is current and about the beetle in South Carolina. Really cool continuing education (AT) (a little more than an hour long) webinar from August 12, 2020. http://www.forestrywebinars.net/webinars/asian-longhorned-beetle-a-new-invasive-tree-pest-in-south-carolina
There is also a draft environmental assessment published for public comment regarding plans to eradicate the ALB from SC. https://www.aphis.usda.gov/plant_health/ea/downloads/2020/alb-sc-draft-ea.pdf
