Summer is winding down here in the Lowcountry. It’s a little easier these days to get out into nature without melting or welting! Check out CMNA’s events this month, both virtual and in-person, and come join us!
Insects All Around Us: Virtual
Think and Drink
Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 7-8pm
Join Clemson Professor Emeritus Dr. Merle Shepard as we discuss some of the amazing diversity of insects around us this time ofyear. Insects make up the most diverse and abundant animals on earth with over 1.4 million described species. The presentation will focus on pollinators, but will also include other insects. If you haven’t already, here’s a link to the Think and Drink Sign Up.
Walk and Talk: Caw Caw
Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 9-10:30am
Look for a separate sign up to join Dr. Shepard at Caw Caw, as we walk through various habitats to observe all the critters we can find there. First priority is given to the Think and Drink attendees.
The Think and Drink and the Walk and Talk events each qualify towards your annual 8 hours of Advanced Training. To log your hours, go to the Master Naturalist Online Volunteer Hour Reporting System.
CMNA Board Member Colin Hocking will lead a walk along the greenway, looking for a variety of subjects to photograph. Keep in mind that the greenway runs along a tidal salt marsh, and the walk is at a time when the tide is starting to go out, leaving us with wading birds to view, and possibly sightings of Bald Eagles, Osprey and Roseate Spoonbills.
While walking, Colin will make suggestions about photo-worthy subject matter and identify what settings he uses and why. Of course, he’ll be answering your questions, too. Space is still available, so sign up here: Photography Outing Sign Up
